On Thursday the 6th of June two of Milyakburras future leaders Lincoln and Maxzelda joined hundreds of other students across Australia and became Principal for a Day. The day started off with “Books and Breakfast on the grass”. Bacon and eggs were cooked up and an announcement was made over the council loudspeaker for parents and relatives to come down to school and listen to their kids read. Lincoln said “eating bacon and eggs on the grass was the best part of the day”. After breakfast, classes resumed to normal for a 2 hour literacy session, all except for Maxzelda and Lincolns class who after completing some solid writing had a major focus on iPads and minecraft.
For recess we all jumped in the school car and drove down to the beach where the fortnightly barge lands. A few trips were made. At the beach the kids did reading and drawing. Some great portraits were made. The day ended around 7.30pm after a movie night on the lawn of the school. Maxzelda chose the movie but was not really that impressed after watching it for half an hour! It was a very successful day. Maxzelda said “being a principal was great because of learning new stuff”. Some of the younger students have already asked if they can be principal for a day next week! The response from the adults in the community has also been very positive and Lincolns parents were very proud that he was principal for a day.
